WHO Warns Threat of Bird Flu Spreading to Humans Is ‘Great Concern’

Jeremy Farrar, chief scientist for the World Health Organization (WHO), recently highlighted the escalating threat of human-to-human transmission of bird flu, as the virus continues to mutate and spread from mammals to humans. Despite no confirmed cases of human-to-human transmission, Farrar emphasized the virus's "extremely high" mortality rate in humans.

The global outbreak has affected millions of birds and has now started infecting mammals like cows, raising concerns about its potential to spread among humans due to similar body structures. Farrar urged immediate action to ensure equitable access to vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics, as the WHO classifies the situation as a "global zoonotic animal pandemic."
