What You Need to Know About Measles After WHO Sounds Alarm Over Killer Virus in Europe

Health officials around the world are scrambling to combat a rising tide of measles as falling vaccination rates and increased travel after the Covid-19 pandemic help the dangerous virus stage an alarming comeback. The U.K. Health Security Agency declared a major incident on Friday amid the country’s alarming surge of measles cases.

 

With countries in Europe declaring national emergencies, U.S. experts monitor growing cases at risk of spiraling into bigger outbreaks. “Measles continues to pose a relentlessly increasing threat to children,” the CDC said in a report published with the WHO in November.
