AIM Resource: Managing Vaccine Hesitancy During an Outbreak: A Focus on Cultural Competence

Recent outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) have emerged in areas with low vaccination rates. Vaccine hesitancy is a common factor in these outbreaks and understanding vaccine hesitancy among diverse populations is crucial for effective public health strategies.

The Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) provides Chapter 2 of their “Lessons from the Field: Promoting Vaccine Confidence” resource, where they offer essential, culturally competent steps for identifying and engaging with communities at risk for vaccine-preventable diseases to manage vaccine hesitancy, particularly in outbreak situations.
