A Cautionary Reminder: Fireworks Safety Tips for a Healthy Fourth of July
As Americans prepare for Fourth of July festivities, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns about the dangers of fireworks. In 2023 alone, CPSC reported eight deaths and nearly 9,700 injuries related to fireworks. Despite a recent decline from the peak in 2020, injuries have shown an overall increase since 2008.
Most injuries occur among teenagers and young children, with burns being the most common injury type. CPSC advises caution, urging people to use only consumer-grade fireworks, avoid alcohol or drugs when handling them, and keep water nearby for safety. Read the report here.
