Texas Declares Measles Outbreak Over After 762 Confirmed Cases
Texas health officials have declared the measles outbreak that began in West Texas earlier this year officially over, following 762 confirmed cases, mostly among unvaccinated children. Two unvaccinated school-age children died, marking the first U.S. measles deaths in over a decade. The outbreak originated in a community with low vaccination coverage and highlighted the critical role of public health measures, including testing, vaccination campaigns, disease monitoring, and public education.
Measles remains highly contagious, but a full two-dose MMR vaccine is 97% effective. Officials emphasized that coordinated response efforts were essential to containing the outbreak and protecting community health. Read more from The Hill here.
