CDC Reports Persistent Disparities in U.S. Suicide Rates, 2018–2023
CDC analysis of U.S. suicide rates from 2018–2023 highlights persistent disparities across racial, ethnic, and age groups. Rates in 2023 were highest among American Indian or Alaska Native, White, and Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander populations. While suicide declined 7% among youth (ages 10–24) and 3% among White people, rates rose 25% among Black people and 10% among Hispanic people.
Suicide remains a leading cause of death for Americans ages 10–64, underscoring the need for comprehensive prevention.
