U.S. Measles Cases Reach 4,410 as Childhood Vaccination Coverage Falls Below Target

U.S. measles cases reached 4,410 in 2026 as of Oct. 16, nearly double the 2,289 cases reported in all of 2025, according to the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) update. Six probable measles deaths have also been confirmed this year.

Declining childhood vaccination coverage remains a concern, with only 92.4% of kindergarteners receiving the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine during the 2025-26 school year, below the 95% coverage considered necessary to prevent widespread outbreaks.

The increase highlights the importance of childhood immunization in preventing measles transmission and deaths. Read the full story from The Hill here.
