CDC Expands Local-Level Epidemic Trend Estimates for Respiratory Illnesses

Ahead of the fall and winter respiratory season, CDC has expanded its epidemic trend (Rt) estimates to provide more localized insights into how COVID-19, RSV, and flu are spreading.

New interactive visualizations provide estimates at the Health Service Area (HSA) level in many communities, helping public health practitioners, healthcare systems, and frontline responders incorporate local trends into situational awareness, preparedness, and resource planning.

Powered with data shared by state and local partners and CDC analytics, the enhanced modeling also provides more timely insights. Compared to surveillance-based methods, Rt estimates can detect outbreak peaks 2-3 weeks faster at the state-level and up to 1.5 weeks faster at the HSA-level. Explore the interactive website here.
