Virginia Prepares to Launch its First Recovery High School
A new recovery high school is set to open in Chesterfield, VA this month as substance use continues to rise in in the state. At least 38 children between the ages of 12 and 17 have died of drug overdoses since 2018. The school plans to open its doors on August 22 and could start with anywhere between 25 and 40 students. The district is still in the process of hiring a teacher, a program coordinator and other administrative staff. There are currently at least 43 active recovery high schools in 21 states, with two more expected to open this year.
