WHO Releases AI Ethics and Governance Guidance for Large Multi-Modal Models
The World Health Organization (WHO) is issuing guidance on the ethical use of large multi-modal models (LMMs), a rapidly adopted AI technology in healthcare. With over 40 recommendations, it targets responsible LMM use by governments, tech companies, and healthcare providers. These models, like ChatGPT, Bard, and Bert, mimic human communication and have gained widespread adoption since 2023.
Dr. Jeremy Farrar, WHO Chief Scientist, underscores the potential of generative AI for healthcare while emphasizing the need for transparency and policies to address risks. Concerns include generating false or biased information, risks from poor-quality training data, and broader challenges of accessibility and affordability. Read more from WHO here.
