Senators Push for More Investment in Long COVID Research

Senators, including Committee Chair Sen. Bernie Sanders, emphasized the urgent need for increased government involvement in long COVID research during Tuesday’s Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions hearing. Sanders highlighted the lack of attention the crisis has received from the community, media, and Congress.

 

Long COVID encompasses a range of medical issues emerging post-COVID-19 infection, with symptoms like severe fatigue, shortness of breath, sleep problems, and fever, as outlined by the CDC. Despite the widespread impact, there are currently no FDA-approved medicines for treatment, posing challenges for patients in accessing insurance coverage for necessary treatments.
