First Case of Severe Mpox Virus Confirmed in NYC
The New York City Department of Health recently confirmed the city’s first case of the more severe clade I mpox virus. The case is travel-related, and no local transmission is currently known. Clade I can cause serious illness and has a higher fatality rate than the clade II strain seen in 2022.
Public health officials recommend vaccination for individuals at higher risk and emphasize vigilance through timely communication, monitoring of emerging cases, and education about transmission and prevention strategies. NYC vaccination sites are available for those seeking protection. Read more from NY Daily News here.
