Political Leaders Urging for National Public Health Emergency After Roe v. Wade Repeal

Saturday, Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Tina Smith of Minnesota are urging President Joe Biden to declare a public health emergency as nearly two dozen states move to ban abortion following Roe v. Wade’s official repeal last Friday. The Senators said the emergency declaration would help "protect abortion access for all Americans.” In addition, a group of 20 Black congresswomen wrote a public letter last Friday to President Joe Biden, insisting he protect access to abortion by "declaring a public health and national emergency." The coalition, led by Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass. urges Biden "to use any and all executive authorities to address the public health crisis our nation will face if Roe v. Wade is dismantled."
