Public Health Struggles to Get Rid of Its Data Silos

According to a new survey from Ernst & Young LLP (EY US), improving data strategies and technology platforms are top priorities for public health officials. More than 8 in 10 of the decision-makers surveyed said advances in data and data technology made them more optimistic than they had ever been about what public health can achieve. However, the survey report notes that a “gulf in perception” between leadership and operational teams could stand in the way of change. Eighty-five percent of decision-makers consider it to be a “silver lining” that the pandemic had revealed weaknesses in public health operations that could point the way to change, but less than 40 percent of those in delivery feel this way.
